In the 7th century BC, Rome and Alba clash. A single combat will decide the fate of both sides: Three Romans, the Horatii, will fight three Albans, the Curiatii... But Horace, the hero of the play, is married to Sabine, an Alban and sister of Curiatius, while Camilla, Horace's sister, is engaged to Curiatius: an eminently tragic situation. What's more: when Horace returns victorious from the combat, Camilla unleashes a torrent of imprecations that drives her brother to kill her. Horace raises the question of heroism: if it is difficult to become a hero, it is exceptional to be able to remain one.
